Bringing our roar to the wilderness of NL!
On July 8, 2016, two members of the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency of Newfoundland faced the roar of the razor. Together, Andrew Dyke and Doug Harrison got new summer haircuts outside their office on a sunny Friday afternoon as their colleagues cheered them on.
Together Andrew and Doug raised over $1,000 for Young Adult Cancer Canada! Big thanks to Stephanie O’Brien from OZFM for offering to shave their heads, and to Wanda Keats from the Public Service Credit union for attending the shave and presenting a cheque to Andrew and Doug to go towards their fundraising goal.

Sweet payoff for female Shaver at Community Shave!
At Canada’s largest Shave for the Brave, first-time participant Titia Praamsma felt the temptation to turn back, until stepping into the heart of the event eased her fears. After losing a cousin and a friend’s sister to cancer, she wanted to give back, wondering if donating her hair and time could help others on a difficult journey.
With strong support from family, friends, and coworkers, Titia surpassed her $2,000 goal. The Shave brought unexpected challenges—navigating social events with a drastic new look made her reflect on how many women feel during cancer treatment. But she says it was worth every moment.
“Definitely sign up,” she says. “It’s a chance to step into someone else’s shoes, dig deep, and find some beauty within.”

Off with her hair!
When Julie Michaud learned she needed chemotherapy for a second time—and would lose her hair again—she knew exactly what to do. A young mom from Nova Scotia, Julie was first diagnosed with breast cancer at 29. After finding support and community through Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC), she felt compelled to give back.
Now facing metastatic cancer while caring for a newborn and two young children, Julie turns to the friendships and understanding she’s found through YACC—people who truly “get it.” Wanting others to experience that same support, she decided to shave her head before treatment claimed her hair, raising funds so more young adults can attend YACC’s life-changing programs.
Her son chose to shave his head alongside her. On July 10, 2015, they planned to Shave for the Brave—for their family, for the YACC community, and for every young adult who has yet to face a diagnosis.
Julie’s message is simple: support, donate, shave, or share the word—because young adults get cancer too, and they need to know they’re not alone.
