St Matthews Elementary 5th Shave!

On May 15, 2015, St. Matthew’s School held their fifth consecutive Shave for the Brave!

Head Hunter Danielle Bishop spearheaded the event, along with the Shave Committee comprised of Janice Kelly, Kelly Manning, Amanda Adams, Colin Barry, Greg Jackman, and Charmayne Rumbolt.

The volunteer action didn’t stop with the school, Woodford Training Centre supplied the awesome volunteer stylists to help with the event, and photographer Kayla White also volunteered her time to capture the event.

Geoff Eaton spoke, thanking the school for their unwavering support before he presented Danielle — who is also a cancer survivor — with a “brave” toque.

Survivor Kathy Stock was also on hand to say thank you, and told the audience how her life has changed since she got in touch with Young Adult Cancer Canada, and exactly how the Shave is changing the lives of young adults all over Canada.

Devon Whey was joined by his parents, Colleen and Alex, as they all stepped up to face the clippers together, as did father/son duo, Steve and Matthew Power.

Teachers Lisa Fancey and Lisa Wagner aided the school’s leadership group as they sold tickets on to opportunity to help shave teacher Greg Jackman’s head and the chance to cut off one of teacher Danielle Bishop’s braids. The spontaneous venture raised $247!

In total, 58 Shavers and 16 Mane Mamas rocked the gym, raising over $11,000 with donations still coming in! Way to go, St. Matthew’s! 58 Shavers and 16 Mane Mamas in the gym after their shave
