CBN Lightning holds powerful event
The CBN Lightning Shave for the Brave was set for June 29, 2015, but heavy rain pushed us into the Bay Roberts Search and Rescue building. With music playing and nerves high, the evening began with messages of pride and support from Soccer Club President Robert Tarrant and NLSA’s Christopher Bartlett.
We introduced our young Shavers—five boys who had already raised over $2,500—though the youngest, Oliver Noseworthy, had to participate from home due to illness. The crowd of about 50 listened as guest speaker Jordan Bishop shared his cancer story and how YACC supported him. His honesty moved everyone and gave the event deeper meaning.
One by one, the boys took the chair as the crowd cheered and Ken Neville gave each of them a fun, unique shave—mohawks, reverse mohawks, and finally Damian Laundry’s long hair, braided for donation. Jordan handed each boy a Shave for the Brave toque as they finished.
After releasing memory balloons outside, the night ended with a shared sense of purpose and inspiration. It was one of the most moving events we had ever been part of.
