Are you man enough to wax your legs?
Crosbie Group Limited in St. John’s showed us what they were willing to do to help young adults deal with cancer in Canada–and it involved a lot of pain.
Building on the back-waxing at their first Shave in 2011, some participants agreed to lose a little body hair in addition to Shaving their heads. They took turns on the massage tables and had their legs waxed as their colleagues watched.
When it was all said and done, three people raised $8,241.

Carbonear’s first Community Shave for the Brave
Head Hunter Kristy Reynolds organized Carbonear’s first Community Shave for the Brave at the TC Square on Sunday, June 12. Eight people raised almost $2,000 and donated a few braids which will be donated to make wigs for children through Continental Hair’s Wigs for Kids program.
People showed up to Shave alone and with buddies. There were also a couple of parent/child Shave teams with Frances Campbell and her son, Cameron Green, and Chad Parsons and his daughter, Hailey.
Thank you to everyone who Shaved, donated, and volunteered. We can’t wait to see what happens next year

There’s nothing boring about the board room at Ernst & Young
Lynn Healey, a Partner at Ernst & Young LLP in St. John’s and a Director on our Board, and Jamie Roche, a Business Development Executive at the firm, wanted to support the Shave for the Brave and “those people that face the challenges of fighting cancer” so they signed their office up.
The staff gathered in a boardroom on Monday, April 4, to watch as four of their coworkers went bald in support of Canadian young adults with cancer.
Lynn gave a short presentation on Young Adult Cancer Canada before the shearing began to make sure everyone knew why they were there. Then, Jamie picked up the clippers and started Shaving heads after his own hair was gone.
Thank you to Lynn, Jamie, and everyone else at Ernst & Young. We hope you had fun and look forward to seeing you again next year!

Dearest Deer Lake
Mackenzie Bingle decided he wanted to grow his hair out and shave his MASSIVE “caucasian ‘fro” to benefit people with cancer. He and his father, Perry, contacted us in March with fantastic plans already in place.
Mackenzie was organizing the Shave at his school, Elwood Regional High School, and inviting the community to get involved as well. On April 15, 15 Shavers (8 students and 7 members of the public) got a little bit balder. At the end of the day, they were $77 shy of $5,000. Mackenzie said, “One of my friends went to his uncle and said we need $77 and he gave $100 so were over $5,000!” As of press time, the Bingle’s efforts in Deer Lake have resulted in $5,579 for Young Adult Cancer Canada!

Shave Thank You Party in Calgary
For the first time ever, Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) held a Community Shave in Calgary, AB, with the help of our new Regional Coordinator Mike Lang. He also helped to organize another first for YACC – a Skype Challenge between AB school Glenmore Christian Academy and NL school Mount Pearl Intermediate.
Both events were AWESOME so in addition to the St. John’s Party we have every year, we wanted to make sure we did something similar out West this year to thank all the amazing shavers, head hunters, mane mamas, volunteers, donors and sponsors who contributed to the Shave from across the country!
Special thanks to Southcentre Mall, MC College and AMP radio for your generous participation and really helping us to ramp up excitement in Alberta around the Shave this year.

Shave Challenge Goes Head to Head at m5!
Two brave shavers from m5 lost their locks in support of the Shave for the Brave, Jim Mackey and Gareth Mitton, and raised an amazing $4,200! The two had originally started a competition to raise more money than the other, with the “loser” having to shave. But in the end, both decided to do the deed. And we’re glad, because there are no losers when it comes to participating in the Shave for the Brave!
