69 Panthers Shave at Paradise Elementary School!

Before the stylists even had their clippers plugged in on May 29, 2015, we knew Paradise Elementary School’s fourth annual Shave for the Brave was going to be a hoot. Kids and teachers were up dancing to “Macarena” and “YMCA,” and there was an excited buzz throughout the auditorium.

Sixty-nine Panthers and their parents climbed the stairs to the stage to show their support for young adults affected by cancer in Canada, young adults like Kathy Stock.

Kathy was at the school to tell the audience more about her experiences with YACC, and how the $16,051 they raised would help her cancer peers. She also presented a “Brave” toque to student Colton St. Croix, a survivor who never had any interest in Shaving in the past, and whose mom, Roxann, was a volunteer hair stylist!

The family ties didn’t end there; stylist Rhodena Goosney has a grandson at the school, and Jennifer Hiscock joined her daughter, Jordyn, on stage to donate an extra set of braids!

The crowd was super engaged, and navigating the front of the stage was akin to making your way around Quidi Vidi Lake during the Royal St. John’s Regatta. Razor told us he was happy to make a ton of new friends, and we loved seeing all the kids come out to hug their parents when they came off stage.

Big thanks to the Shavers and their supporters; Head Hunter Linda Pike and the staff at Paradise Elementary School;  Rhodena Goosney (retired stylist); Roxann Coombs (Colour Me Crazy); Teresa Tarrant, Angie Bryant, and Christina Joy (Keyin College); and Leslie Harris (Head 2 Toe).
