Eastern Health offers transition program for cancer survivors
Eastern Health’s Social Work Department at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre is offering a free seven-week program for cancer survivors who have been finished treatment from six weeks to two years.

Localife Ottawa gets a new leader at the year 2 kickoff
The Localife leaders barbecued hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers while everyone else enjoyed a great tray full of vegetables. We had a great turnout of both new and returning participants alike and we all enjoyed a lovely sunset sitting out on the patio at Maplesoft.

The 2nd annual Surge for Cancer raises $25,000!
The second annual SURGE for CANCER at MAX was a huge success! Eighty-five participants pushed their bodies to the limit at the three-hour fitness event and raised over $25,000 to help young adults deal with cancer in Canada!

Canada Post Community Foundation grants YACC $18,100!
Thank you to the Canada Post Community Foundation for selecting Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) as one of the 2013 grant recipients. Their gift of $18,100 will help young adults who are dealing with cancer access the 2014 Survivor Conference and Retreat Yourself programs.

YACC celebrates its 13th birthday!
YACC celebrated its thirteenth birthday back in June, but scheduling conflicts meant we didn’t get to celebrate with the annual golf tournament until September 19, 2013. Even being held a little later in year, and at a different venue, the event was still a tremendous success (and a lot of fun)!

Atlantica, a seaside restaurant in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, NL, is giving back! Each Wednesday during October will feature eight-course tasting and wine pairings, and the funds raised will be divided between four local charities.

Flashback to the beginning
As I came out of my first cancer challenge, I had this desire to be open with a new group of people, specifically about my cancer experience. This desire was really the seed that grew into YACC. I knew that if I was open and shared my story with other young adults, they would respond with compassion and an emotional connection would be formed.

Let's do some cool stuff with this new website!
One of the ideas we had for the new website was to concentrate on a different topic that affects young adults dealing with cancer on a monthly schedule. The site is only a couple of weeks old, and we have shared some great stories with you already, but to get you in the mood for what’s to come, we are sneaking in before September ends with a couple of different perspectives on moving beyond cancer on a cognitive level.
