Sweet payoff for female Shaver at Community Shave!
At Canada’s largest Shave for the Brave, first-time participant Titia Praamsma felt the temptation to turn back, until stepping into the heart of the event eased her fears. After losing a cousin and a friend’s sister to cancer, she wanted to give back, wondering if donating her hair and time could help others on a difficult journey.
With strong support from family, friends, and coworkers, Titia surpassed her $2,000 goal. The Shave brought unexpected challenges—navigating social events with a drastic new look made her reflect on how many women feel during cancer treatment. But she says it was worth every moment.
“Definitely sign up,” she says. “It’s a chance to step into someone else’s shoes, dig deep, and find some beauty within.”

Researcher Amanda Wurz of the University of Ottawa connected with us a while back to help connect her with some cancer survivors between 15-19 and their parents to determine the role parents play in a survivor’s post-cancer physical activity. She has updated her age criteria, and this study is now open to participants between 15-25.
