There are a few questions a lot of people seem to have about Retreat Yourself Adventure 2024, so we made a handy go-to guide!
REGISTRATION AND FEES
Q: How do I register for the retreat?
A: You can register online by clicking here. If you have any trouble with this, please email [email protected].
Q: How do I pay my registration fee?
Once your registration is approved, we will send you a link to make your first payment of 25 per cent of your registration fee to confirm your spot. The next 25 per cent is due on August 1, and the remaining 50 per cent is due on September 1. If you like, you can pay the full amount before September 1.
You can also call Lesley Morrissey, senior manager of operations, at (709) 579-7325 to process your payment over the phone.
Q: What happens to the money I fundraise if it is more than the cost of my plane ticket to the event?
A: Any extra money raised by participants goes directly into the Expansion Pack to contribute to travel assistance and other opportunities that help get more people to YACC’s programs. There are often many young adult patients/survivors left on the wait list each year, and the only way to get them to the events is with extra funds.
Q: What if I have a registration question that isn’t answered here?
Check out our new registration model FAQs or email [email protected]!
CANCELLATION POLICIES
Q: What happens if I am registered and then I need to cancel?
We know that many things can happen between the time you register and the time you check-in at the event. If you have paid your “partially funded” or “self funded” registration fee, you will receive a full refund if you need to cancel before September 1, 2024. We will look at options of anyone who needs to cancel after September 1 for the following reasons:
- Health issues
- Death in the family
- Family emergency
If you are registered and you need to cancel due to personal reasons, you must email [email protected].
Q: What happens to the money I raise for my participation if I need to cancel?
When a donor makes a donation, a tax receipt is sent out automatically and therefore we cannot refund the transaction. However, we can keep your donations on record and apply them toward another YACC program in the future!
THE PROGRAM
Q: I require special assistance or have dietary restrictions, whom do I contact?
A: There is a section on the online registration form where you can list any special needs. You can also email Angie Barrington ([email protected]) if necessary.
Q: Do I need to book my own accommodations?
A: For the duration of Retreat Yourself Adventure (checking in Thursday, September 26; checking out Monday, September 30) your accommodations will be arranged by YACC. However, if you want to come early/stay late in Deer Lake, NL, you will need to arrange (and pay) for that yourself.
Q: How many people are in each room, and can we chose our roommates?
A: There will be two people to a room. If you are bringing a supporter, we will make sure you are able to room with them. For those of you coming on your own, you can request to share a room with another survivor if you know someone else who is coming. Otherwise, we try to match roommates based on gender, age, lifestyle, and diagnosis.
Q: My abilities change day to day. Will I be able to change my choices based on my abilities that day?
A: We absolutely want you to have the best experience possible at Retreat Yourself Adventure, however, the schedule is jam-packed and we will be travelling around western Newfoundland. Due to the popularity of this program, we ask that you only apply if you are confident you are up for the challenge.
Q: I might have other commitments during the weekend of the event, am I able to come and go as necessary over the weekend?
A: Currently Retreat Yourself Adventure is not set up so people can come and go. It’s designed for participants to attend the whole event.
Q: What insurance/medical travel insurance do I need?
A: Each province and personal insurance is different. Please make sure you consult with your provincial body and/or personal insurance to determine what you would need when travelling outside of your province. Also, do not forget to bring along your medical card, insurance cards, and photo IDs.
Q: What is the dress code for Retreat Yourself Adventure?
We want you to be comfortable, and encourage you to pack for all weather conditions. Outdoor/activewear is a must.
