Why are there different access levels/cost options for multi-day, in-person programs?
To keep our programs accessible while ensuring sustainability, we use a transparent, tiered pricing model. Those who can contribute more help expand access for others, which is an incredible way to give back!
Simply select the option that works best for you when applying — no bank statements or complicated financial disclosures involved.
We trust our community, and we want you to be part of this.
- Free-to-You Rate (full bursary)
We believe that cost should not prevent participation! We work hard to bring as many folks who require this option as possible. - Cost-Recovery Rate (Partially subsidized)
Helps recover meal, venue, and hospitality costs of the multi-day experience. - Full Program Rate
Reflects the true cost of delivering the multi-day experience, including speaker honoraria, production, and accessibility supports.
What will be the costs of the partially-funded and self-funded spaces?
GREAT question, and one that will depend from program to program, and year to year. The registration options will be determined based on YACC’s budget for the program and the program costs, and they will be communicated during the registration process for that specific program.
How will you determine who gets a funded spot?
We evaluate based on multiple factors, including (a) date of registration; (b) fitting inside the program’s age eligibility; (c) self-reported financial need; (d) if you’ve received this support before; (e) location; & (f) assuring a diverse YACC community. This is an evolving process and will vary from program to program, and YACC staff retains discretionary decision-making.
If your preferred “category” is full, we will offer you the option of staying on the waitlist for that group, or selecting another option where space permits.
Who is a “supporter”?
At YACC, we know caregivers come from many types of relationships and walks of life. For us to keep the young adult vibe, for the purposes of our programming, we consider a “supporter” someone in a similar stage of life as you, for example, your sibling, your partner, your spouse, or your close friend. Essentially, not parents/guardians/or children.
Can my supporter apply for a fully funded spot?
Yes, where space permits. We know a cancer diagnosis can have a monumental impact on an individual’s financial position, and that can extend to their supporter.
What if I pay or fundraise for my place, and then I can’t make it?
We get it, and we will work with you to ensure you can attend in the future or refund costs where possible.
However, because we often have waitlists for programs and other non-negotiable program-related deadlines, program events will have clearly outlined cancellation policies that will address the timelines, options, and processes should you need to cancel.
How does the waitlist work?
As spaces become available, we will move through the waitlist in a manner that allows us to make the most of the available spaces we have. It’s our goal to have full programs when possible.
Will there be travel assistance?
Absolutely. Just like before, participants will be able to apply for travel assistance, and the amount YACC can reimburse will be half up to a maximum amount calculated on a typical fare from the province you live in.
We are keeping travel fees separate from the registration fee because some people have different transportation options, “airmiles,” vouchers, or other payment options.
Can I fundraise even if I am paying for my spot?
YES! The more money the “Expansion Pack” raises as an organization, the more programs we are able to offer for those who need them.
I was diagnosed with cancer before the age of 40, but I’ve aged and now I’m over the age of 40. Can I still apply?
Our programs are designed to help people at different stages of their cancer experiences, which means there might be opportunities for those who have “aged out” to attend. Make sure to review the eligibility sections of the registration forms, or feel free to email [email protected] if you have questions.
We do prioritize our Free-to-You spots for those under the age of 40, you are significantly more likely to attend the program if you are able to pay or fundraise for your participation.
What programs will you offer this year?
With more than two decades-worth of programming (and a very creative and amazing program team), we have created more programs than we can possibly offer each year with the resources we currently have. As we develop our business plan each year, we will make sure to plan for a combination of programs that gives a variety of experiences to members at different stages of the cancer experience.
Who do I contact if I have questions about the registration model?
The best way to get in touch is to email [email protected]!
