Hi everyone, its Geoff’s Dad still filling in for Geoff. Geoff is still fighting hard and started winning a few small battles in the corners. Right now he’s carrying the puck and while he’s not sure where he is he’s scrapping hard.
In the past two days he has improved in small ways and is definitely heading in the right direction. I’ve started reading names of people who have called, e-mailed or otherwise sent their thoughts and good wishes. We’re not sure when he hears it and when he’s sleeping as he has absolutely no means of responding to any stimuli. He is sedated and paralysed by drugs to help him repair the ravages of the infection, and so far it appears to be working. I will compile a list each day of those of you who want to pass on your thoughts, if time permits, and I will keep a copy for him to listen to or read when he’s able. I can’t promise to reply to your but will try to send an update from time to time.
Its really overwhelming to hear of all the prayers and positive thoughts circulating in support of Geoff and from all his family THANKS MILLIONS. Its working!
Geoff is in for a long period of recuperation, best case, and is very fragile if exposed to any more crises or insults to his body. Irene, Jenny and I had a long talk Tuesday night with a man who spent 35 days in the same ICU last year in a very similar situation as Geoff. He told us that there were four things that he recalls and feels about the experience, and what it was that helped him through it. They were, strong family support, prayers and wishes of friends, A sense of a strong spiritual presence, and his determination to fight. It was a very enlightening and reassuring night for us, and it renewed our strong feelings that we are heading the right way and doing the right things. With all the fantastic friends Geoff has, his determination and focus, and love of his family, he’s got all the weapons on his side. There’s no doubt that the quitting is not an option.
Next time I expect to be writing what Geoff tells me to write.
