February may have blanketed much of Canada in snow and ice, but our Localife groups were busy keeping our community warm by hosting a variety of events across the country!
Localife is YACC’s social programming initiative — fun, activity-based groups running in nine cities across the country. Cancer might come up, but it doesn’t have to, and that’s exactly the point; for young adults navigating cancer, having a community that shows up — not necessarily to talk about cancer, but to just share experiences and be together — can make all the difference. In February, YACC’s Localife groups did exactly that.
Localife offers a wide variety of social opportunities. While Localife St. John’s kicked off the month with an evening at the Rooms, Localife Calgary punched in a solid session at Greta YYC, a bar, arcade, and street food establishment that surely has something for everyone.
The food, drink, and games at Greta were a big hit with the Calgary YACCers , and community members noted that it was “good mix of fun games and getting to chat.”

They were also excited about the opportunity to extend their connection to not just their peers, but to their family and loved ones. One participant noted that their personal highlight was “bringing my partner and introducing them to my community.”
For Localife Ottawa, February kicked off with “Ottawa Winterlude – National Gallery Art Evening.”

Localife Ottawa leaders noted: “We had fun exploring the gallery and making some fun pastel crafts to remember our evening together.”
Localife Ottawa participants said their highlights were “connection with new and existing YACC folks,” with one participant saying “my favourite part was talking to the other YACC members, which was easiest to do over the craft.”
Localife Ottawa wasn’t the only group to stay creative with their February events!

Connecting through creativity is a staple at Localife events! On February 7, Localife Winnipeg enjoyed a night of pottery painting at Crock-a-Doodle, and on February 22, Localife Toronto kicked off their first event of the year with their own pottery night!
“We were really happy so many people were able to come out and enjoyed all the conversations and creativity,” said Localife Toronto leaders, Catherine and Liz.
February welcomed the newest Localife group!
February was also a big month for Localife and the YACC community as it saw the very first event held by Localife Saskatoon on February 8!
Localife Saskatoon celebrated their kickoff with a paint night that helped acquaint the ninth and newest Localife chapter! Leader Steph noted that everyone had fun at their first event, and the group is already moving forward with planning more outings!
