YACC supports supporters

Caregiving can feel isolating, but you do not have to do it alone.

Hannah, YACC’s program administrator at Young Adult Cancer Canada, has lived experience as a caregiver for her late partner during his cancer experience. Because of that, she knows firsthand how important it is to have space to connect with people who truly understand what it means to support someone through cancer.

Last month, she began hosting a monthly YACC web chat just for people who support their friends, siblings, spouses, and loved ones through cancer. These conversations create space for young adult supporters to connect, share experiences, and support each other with people who get it.

A medium-wide shot of Hannah smiling at the camera. Her posture is relaxed. She is wearing a black tank top and her long brown hair is down. She said, “I’ve been a program administrator with YACC since May 2025, but I first connected with YACC in 2020 when I was a supporter to my late partner, Chris. My experience with young adult caregiving and grief changed everything for me. It even inspired a career change from law to mental health work!

“As I pursue my Masters of Counselling — to be completed in 2028 — I’m working behind the scenes here at YACC and also testing out a facilitation role that can serve the young adult supporter community that I feel so passionate about. I know developing programs for supporters has been a dream at YACC for years and years, so I’m overjoyed that I can be here to help make it happen!”

If you are between the ages of 18 and 39, join us for the next caregiver chat on March 11 to connect, share, and support each other.
