LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Recover Study leadership team

Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) is embarking on a new research adventure that will shed some light on what the road to recovery from cancer looks like.

It takes longer to recover from cancer than to be treated for it, but few people know that. Our healthcare system invests a lot of time and energy in the treatment phase of the cancer experience — and that is important — but what happens when treatments are done (if they ever are)? What happens 1, 2, 10 years down the road?

We want to know, and this is what the Recover Study is all about. What is really great is YACC’s new longitudinal study is one that will be led by the community, and this is where we need your help!

We are currently seeking passionate and experienced individuals to join our Recover Study Leadership Team for the 2023-2025 term. This is a volunteer opportunity.

YACC’s Recover Study Leadership Team will play a vital role in shaping our next big research project. It will oversee the implementation and management of the study and provide support to the research team.

Our mission

YACC’s mission is to support young adults living with, through, and beyond cancer. To be the connection to peers, bridge out of isolation, and source of inspiration. Every cancer, every stage, YACC’s got your back.

Our research goal

This community-led longitudinal research study seeks to engage young adults (YAs) with lived/living experience with cancer to understand their holistic quality of life (e.g. physical, mental, social, and financial) over time and identify recommendations to improve the quality of life for young adults and support their recovery.

Qualifications

YACC is actively recruiting new Recover Study leadership team members who are deeply committed to supporting young adults affected by cancer.

BONUS if you have some previous experience or knowledge in:

The Recover Study leadership team will be composed of individuals who were selected for their specific fields of expertise, personal experiences, and backgrounds to ensure YACC has a wide breadth of knowledge included in decision making.

What is expected

As an applicant, you should have a strong desire to help young adults with cancer on their road to recovery by encouraging them to become part of the Recover study, and to access the programs and services offered by YACC. We seek individuals who are dedicated to contributing to a collaborative team and who are passionate about achieving our research goals. This volunteer commitment entails attending Team and/or Committee meetings, participating in research engagement activities, and engaging in other relevant initiatives. While quarterly meetings can be conducted at YACC HQ or online, we strive to bring everyone together for an in-person leadership meeting once a year.

Sound good? Let’s hear from you!
