BIG NEWS! Four-day programs are back (three ways for you)

After a five-year break, four-day programs are back — starting with Retreat Yourself Adventure in September!

A photograph of four hikers spread out over a craggy cliffside with lush green hills in the background. The words "Coming soon!" are in white lettering with a bright blue stroke.

Historically at YACC, our programs were offered to those who applied first. We were also always limited by the capacity of our resources in the given year. We have struggled with this for a long time, and have had many consultations and conversations with YACCers about how we could make the program model work better for you, the YACCers we serve every day.

To give a tangible example, our last Survivor Conference (which was shut down by COVID) was set for Winnipeg with 130 participants confirmed and 128 on the wait list. All 130 participants who were confirmed for that conference were on fully-funded YACC spots, most were accessing travel assistance, some had full coverage of flights as well.

We had no way of knowing how many of the 130 confirmed had any capacity to cover some (or a lot) of the costs of their participation in that program, so everybody got the full support of YACC. Further, we had no way of giving the 128 people on the waitlist access to a program we know could have fundamentally changed their life.

YACC is now switching our program model from one path of access to three. We’re still going to have the backs of YACCers coast to coast to coast with fully-funded spots at four-day programs we offer, giving YACCers access to community and transformational programs we know they love and need. We’re adding another stream of access for those who have some capacity to fundraise to cover some of their participation costs, and another stream that will offer those who have more capacity to cover all of those costs. We’re moving to this model because it’s going to allow us to serve more of you. It’s going to allow us to give access to our programs more consistently, more frequently, and get more young adults this incredible, amazing experience. It’s going to allow us to offer more events Retreat Yourself Adventure, it’s going to allow us to increase capacity at an event like Survivor Conference, it’s going to allow us to grow our community.

The three access options:

  1. YACC will continue to offer “fully funded” spaces (i.e. free registration) to our programs.
  2. We will also plan for “partially funded” spaces where people will be responsible for some of the cost of their space.
  3. Participants will also be able to “self-fund” their spot, either through fundraising or paying for it.

A flow chart with three tiers outlining the three registration options. Participants can either apply for a YACC-funded spot which covers the cost of the program, a partially funded spot which covers some of the costs of the program, or a self-funded spot which covers all of the costs of the program. All spaces are eligible to apply for travel assistance and/or to fundraise for their spot, or to help make room for someone else.

Introducing this option to our registration process will allow us to bring more YACCers together and provide life-changing programming to more of the people who want it, and that’s the best!

So when can I sign up?!

Our elves are working furiously on the last-minute details and plan to open registration for Retreat Yourself Adventure before the end of June – with something else coming shortly after!
