Thea Skiffington hadn’t cut her hair in a long time. Like, in the amount of time it takes to grow more than 22 inches (editor’s note: your hair grows at a rate of 0.5 inches a month). She wanted to Shave for the Brave, and gave up double the required length of 10 inches per donation for 22-inch braids.
Thea works at Uptown, a restaurant and comedy club in St. John’s. They host a family-friendly event called Magic Mondays and Thea debuted her new ‘do at the April 20 show. She had it cut earlier that day at her salon rather than cutting it during the event.
At the end of the day, her 22 inches earned a remarkable $4,500! That’s over $200 per inch!
Thank you to Thea for getting involved, to Brock Ballard for helping to organize the event, and to everyone who came out and supported Thea’s initiative!
