Geoff Eaton, Executive Director, Young Adult Cancer Canada, was in Nova Scotia today as Millwood High School kicked off their second annual Shave for the Brave.
Eaton is a two-time cancer survivor who knows first-hand how difficult it can be to deal with cancer during such a transitional period of life. His personal experience inspired him to start a national organization that would help people between the ages of 15 and 39 deal with the unique challenges they face when they are diagnosed with cancer such as isolation, fertility, relationships, and career and education planning.
“Young Adult Cancer Canada’s vision is to eliminate the isolation for young adults with cancer by providing access to a community of their peers through its various face-to-face support events and web-based initiatives,” he said.
Millwood High School was Nova Scotia’s first school to join the Shave for the Brave and they finished the 2012 season with 15 heads Shaved and almost $1,600 raised. They have specifically identified Sackville High School to take them on in the Bravest School Challenge, so now it’s up to the staff and students at Sackville High to answer the call!
The title of the Bravest School is awarded to the school where the highest percentage of students Shave their heads each year.
Don’t wait too long to decide, Sackville High; Millwood High is already in the spirit and made a head start on their fundraising efforts by holding a bake sale right after the assembly.
Good luck, everybody!
