I identify as a queer, non-binary, cancer-tusslin, first-generation Vietnamese Canadian, and food-motivated individual.
Thanh, pronounced tun like the sun, (she/they) is an amateur zoo-keeper (two cats and a dog), an avid foodie, and lover of sharks. There’s not much difference between her moon sign and thyroid – both cancer, by the way.
Her cancer journey started with a semi-thyroidectomy in December 2022, followed by a follicular thyroid cancer diagnosis in January 2023. A few months later, she had another semi-thyroidectomy in March, and went through radioactive-iodine treatment in June. As of now, she’s got one more ultrasound until she’s in official remission.
Around the same time of her second surgery, she connected with an AYA Psychosocial Oncology Clinician who connected her with YACC. To commemorate, she has officially declared that every March from 2023 and onward to be her YACCaversary month. Since then, she has been an avid YACC newsletter reader, joined a few studies that YACC has mentioned in their emails, and is looking forward to attending future Localife and YACC-related events.
Connecting with others in the YACC community has been monumental in Thanh’s survivorship and she hopes to return the same support to other YACCers in this role.
