Mal (they/them) is a queer nonbinary artist, activist, and all-around goofball!
They graduated from Memorial University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Since then, they’ve built an eclectic resume in retail management and arts administration. They have worked closely with some of the most notable art institutions and festivals in the province, including The Rooms, Eastern Edge Gallery/HOLD FAST Festival, Nickel Independent Film Festival, St. John’s International CircusFest, Resource Centre for the Arts, and FOGFEST Horror Film Festival. Their work has been supported by Canada Council for the Arts, ArtsNL, and the City of St. John’s.
Mal is passionate about inclusivity, community, and access to care for all people; they are thrilled to be pursuing a career in the non profit sector to live out these values every day.

What do you do when you’re not at YACC?
Cooking up a storm in the kitchen for friends and family, reading, watching films, spending time with family (blood and chosen), or getting cozy with my partner, Jenna, and our cat, Dizzy.
What attracted you to YACC?
I recognize the incredible work that YACC has accomplished both in the province and across the country, from the various Shaves for the Brave happening at schools in my childhood, to the outreach and community building efforts they implement in their programming. YACC works tirelessly towards a common shared value with an unwavering commitment and positivity, and that sort of working culture is exactly what I was looking for in the next step in my career.
What’s your hidden talent?
I’m a trained dancer, singer, actor, and a provincially-renowned drag performer here in St. John’s!
