Frigid weather ruined Localife Edmonton’s plans for a sleigh ride, but as Dan writes, “…as you learn when going through cancer, many times things are out of your control, and you have to adapt to the new scenarios as they are thrown at you.”

Our latest event was another fun one, we went to the Calgary Zoo for the holiday zoolights. We had a great time wandering the zoo checking out all the fun lights and displays the zoo put on.

Localife Ottawa gets a new leader at the year 2 kickoff
The Localife leaders barbecued hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers while everyone else enjoyed a great tray full of vegetables. We had a great turnout of both new and returning participants alike and we all enjoyed a lovely sunset sitting out on the patio at Maplesoft.

Ottawa has a new Localife leader!
Localife Ottawa is set to kick off their second season with a barbecue tonight, and they also have a little surprise–a new Localife leader! Meghan Dutton will join Chris Chow in planning regular activity-based events for young adult cancer survivors and their supporters in the Ottawa area.

Exciting opportunity in Ottawa: Become a Localife Leader!
Localife is an initiative that involves young adult cancer survivors (YAs) and supporters coming together to enjoy fun activities and social time with their peers. It was developed by Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) to address the isolation that many YAs face after diagnosis. Localife has just held it’s first anniversary in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, and Ottawa, and we are currently recruiting one person to join the Ottawa team for year two!

Localife Edmonton: A night at the Fringe
One of the cornerstones of the festivals in Edmonton is the International Fringe Theatre festival, which has been taking place for over three decades. This ten-day play festival has something that can appeal to everyone, so Ash and I thought it would be a great chance to get everyone together for one last summer gathering.

Localife Toronto: A day in the park
The weather could not had been more perfect–there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and we snagged a shoreline-view set of picnic tables where we all got to sample a variety of foods brought for the day from Bonnie’s amazing chickpea salad, to hot burritos, and sweet treats brought by survivors/supporters.
