Flashback to the beginning
As I came out of my first cancer challenge, I had this desire to be open with a new group of people, specifically about my cancer experience. This desire was really the seed that grew into YACC. I knew that if I was open and shared my story with other young adults, they would respond with compassion and an emotional connection would be formed.

Exciting opportunity in Ottawa: Become a Localife Leader!
Localife is an initiative that involves young adult cancer survivors (YAs) and supporters coming together to enjoy fun activities and social time with their peers. It was developed by Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) to address the isolation that many YAs face after diagnosis. Localife has just held it’s first anniversary in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, and Ottawa, and we are currently recruiting one person to join the Ottawa team for year two!

Community pulls together to hold annual fundraising event
The Darryl Gorman Memorial Walk has been held in June each year since 2001 and has raised a collective total of $55,000 for Young Adult Cancer Canada. Members of Darryl’s family would coordinate the participants, organize the prizes for a raffle, but unfortunate circumstances meant the regular organizers cancelled the 2013 walk.
