Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department Shave!

The Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Volunteer Fire Department held their first Shave for the Brave on May 7. We know it takes guts to volunteer to run into burning buildings and attend emergency calls, but 10 people proved they’re willing to do a little bit more and Shaved for the Brave.

For anyone who doesn’t think it’s a big deal for a guy to lose their hair, just attend a function like this. These people risk their lives for others–for nothing!–but the cat calls and on-the-spot donations couldn’t get a lot of them to sign up to Shave. They weren’t ready to lose their hair. We’re not knocking you–we know it’s a difficult thing to do–we just hope other people recognize the sacrifice, too.

Karen Squires even signed up in the moment and cut off 10 inches of her hair!

There were the rumblings of a competition for next year between the fire department and town council, and we’re expecting one heck of an event in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s in 2013!

Thanks to Head Hunter Ian Mercer and all the Shavers, and to the spectators and supporters who helped make the evening a success!10 shavers
