Localife Vancouver goes to (Gas)town

This localife event was highly anticipated by us leaders; this was going to be our first foray into leading an event all by ourselves. To make things even more fun, Karine (YACC’s program director) was flying from Halifax for a retreat the following weekend, so was able to come to our event as well. It was shaping up to be a really fun night, and we hadn’t even figured out where we would host it!

We ended up at Steamworks Pub with a nice, intimate group of survivors, both new and familiar.  There were several people who had never met Karine, so it was a treat to be able to introduce them to her. For the rest of us, it’s always a treat to have Karine around. It definitely made the night special.

We dove into some yummy edibles that we all shared “family style,” passing around the table.  Breaking bread with people is always a great connecting activity. We had tons of laughs, some serious conversations, and a lot of catching up happening around the table. It is always such an honour to be witness to people reconnecting and people making new connections, especially when you know how deeply this organization and the people you meet end up affecting your life.

We managed to sneak in a great photo at the end of the evening. We all got into position and posed like pros. I have never seen people take a group shot with such ease — hats off to all of you! It was such a pleasure to meet with everyone who came.

Many thanks for taking the time out of your schedule and we sincerely hope to see you all again soon!
