The St. John’s Regional Fire Department Central Fire Station has been Shaving for the Brave for years. This year, they decided to skip the line up at the Avalon Mall and held their event at their station on April 28, 2012.
They had 12 Shavers and two Mane Mamas at the event who raised $2,592, including a $1,000 donation from the Fire Fighters Association.
We’ve had to work around a power outage so far this year, but now we can also add fire alarms to the list of unexpected obstacles. There was a call about an hour before the Shave so some Shavers were a little late arriving, and there was another one during the event so some more had to leave. The event kept on moving, and the kids got a little extra excitement.
They made the event a little bit of a party and served pea soup and cupcakes after the Shave.
Thanks to Head Hunter Jim O’Toole and all the Shavers and supporters at the Central Fire Station, and to Woodford Training Centre who volunteered to Shave the Shavers on a beautiful Saturday. You held a great event and we hope to see you again next year!
