Young Adult Cancer Canada > We Get It > Isolation

Isolation

Would you talk about sex with your grandmother? Most every young adult with cancer has had the experience of dropping in on the local cancer support group only to find they are a few decades younger than the average age, it’s much the same as their trips to the chemo room, surrounded by people their parents and grandparents age.  With only 8 support groups for young adults in the whole country no wonder isolation is the other top 2 issue for young adults with cancer.

Earlier today: the Canadian Cancer Society is made their annual statistics release; this year’s special topic is young adults. Geoff’s made Twitter updates from Toronto, and there’s a recording of the conference here.

Finally!  Other people like me.  Every trip to the hospital was weird for me, on many levels, but especially since I only saw people who were much, much older than me.  Finally I flipped my lid one night and found this organization online.  It’s very refreshing to see these videos.  I’m excited to meet some young survivors soon and chew the fat.
